The Beauty of HIIT

So many people are talking about their love of HIIT. Every trainer is promoting it and all the lastest programs (CrossFit, Turbulence Training and Fitness Mag workouts) are using HIIT and for good reason.

Who says you have to workout in the gym for hours to get just mediocre results? The truth of the matter is you don't. You can cut your workout in half by using shorter bouts of very intense movements with shorter rest breaks. The key is to use whole body movements. HIIT can be used with just about anything...track workouts, elliptical or tread mill workouts, calisthenics and weight lifting.

PINK Ladies Fitness incorporates this concept in Bootcamp classes twice a week. The beauty of it is any fitness level can begin using HIIT and maximize the fat loss benefits in a shorter amount of time.

I will begin posting sample workout in the following posts.

Winter Workouts equal Happy People

Winter is thee most hated season for outside workouts or workouts in general really. Missing workouts leads to depression and binge eating. Gt a headstart on the game by forcing yourself to lace up and head out the door. The endorphins produced from working out elevate your mood and in turn makes you a happier person.

Missing a workout can lead to a vicious cycle which can lead to extra pounds. Break the cycle by using these few tips next time you're tempted to stay in:

1. Don't worry about intensity.....just do something and go with the flow. In the winter its not important how far you run and/or how fast you do the elliptical, the only thing that matters is that you left the couch and got active.

2. Set goals so that you have something to work to. Maybe a certain amount of minutes to workout in a given week. This will motivate you to leave the house in the first place....you have a goal to reach after all (just not a very intense one)

3. Mix up your workouts. If you always run then try weight lifting or elliptical or even a fun cardio class like Zumba or Hip Hop Dance. Get out of your comfort zone and give that Belly Dance class you always wanted to try a chance.

Stick these few tips and I promise at the very least you will maintain your fitness level and hopefully find a love for something new and keep you enthused about fitness.
